Supports
A significant local tax credit for any project with 75% or more of its production in LA County, plus a Made In LA seal on screen. Modeled on New York City’s Made in NY program.
What’s the problem?
Production has been leaving Los Angeles for cities and countries that pay productions to come. Every project that leaves takes crew jobs, vendor contracts and neighborhood business with it.
[STAT: LA shoot days over the last few years, from FilmLA]
The fix
Projects that shoot at least 75% in LA County earn a local tax credit on top of state incentives, and the Made In LA seal in their credits. The seal also gives audiences an easy way to find and support work made here.
How would it affect me?
If you’re a producer
Your budget goes further when you shoot at home, not in another state.
If you work on a crew
More productions choose LA, which means more days of work closer to home.
If you love movies
Look for the seal and know your ticket supports the people who live here.
In plain English
Adopting this means
- A local tax credit for projects 75% or more made in LA County
- A Made In LA seal in the credits
- A public database of every certified project
It doesn’t mean
- Replacing California’s state film tax credit
- Penalizing projects that shoot elsewhere
