Invest in LAPL’s Octavia Lab so people can borrow camera and sound equipment with staff support, then expand it to more branches with the goal of one in every library.
What’s the problem?
Gear is expensive, and the people who could be LA’s next filmmakers often can’t afford to start.
The fix
Fund equipment and staff at the Octavia Lab at the downtown Central Library, pilot it at [NUMBER] more branches, and grow it until every LA library has one.
How would it affect me?
If you’re just starting out
Borrow a real camera and sound kit with a library card.
If you’re a teacher
Bring students to a lab near your school.
If you live here
Your branch becomes a place to make things, not just borrow them.
In plain English
Adopting this means
- Camera and sound gear you can borrow
- Staff to help you use it
- A pilot at more branches
It doesn’t mean
- Replacing books or existing library services
